Gophers Advance Three on Day One

AUSTIN, Texas (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program opened the 2015 NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round on Thursday by advancing three runners to quarterfinal action on Saturday.
Meanwhile, senior captain Blayne Dulian advanced in the 1,500 meters with a 3:47.37 -- his second-fastest time of the season and fastest in a month. Dulian's time ranked 12th among all preliminary runners.
The Maroon & Gold closed out the discus competition for the season with Sam Elsner finishing 17th at 54.42 meters (178-06 ft.) while Luke Johnson came in 23rd at 52.86 meters (173-05 ft.) and Bryan Bjerk finished 39th at 50.40 meters (165-04 ft.) -- a new personal record for the thrower.
Ryan Lockard also added a new personal record -- his second in as many meets -- with a 2.13 meter (6-11.75 ft.) leap in the high jump. Lockard came in 24th while Danny Schiller finished 31st at 2.08 meters (6-09.75 ft.).
Nate Roese also closed out his individual event season with a 34th-place finish in the 400 meters. Roese, who will run the 4x400 meter relay with Deng, Hechsel and Rashawn Fountain on Saturday, clocked a 47.38.
Minnesota continues to compete at the 2015 NCAA Track & Field West Preliminary Round on Friday and Saturday at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.
