MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program crosses the border for a pair of meets in Wisconsin on Friday to close out the regular season.Â
The Gophers will send a contingency of competitors to the UW-La Crosse Eagle Open while the Maroon & Gold throwers will head to Madison for the Wisconsin Twilight.Â
Last Time Out
Minnesota totaled seven titles last week between the Musco Twilight and the Golden Bear Twilight. Obsa Ali picked up his first collegiate title, winning the Musco Twilight 3,000 meters as an unattached competitor at 8:17.79 -- one of 11 personal records Minnesota collected at the meet. The Gophers also won six titles earlier in the week in St. Paul including a pair of wins from Jordan Charles in the triple jump (14.30 meters) and the 100 meters (10.71). Minnesota also picked up wins from Danny Schiller in the high jump (2.13 meters), Justin Barber in the hammer throw (59.52 meters), Trevor Yedoni in the long jump (7.23 meters) and Rashawn Fountain in the 400-meter hurdles (53.62).Â
Minnesota Returns to La Crosse
The Maroon & Gold picked up four titles at last year's UW-La Crosse Eagle Open and return a pair of winners in Christian Skaret and Brad Neumann. Skaret won the 1,500 meters at 3:50.98 -- at the time a personal record (improved to 3:49.62 this year). Neumann won the 200 meters at 21.70. Minnesota also won the high jump and the 4x100 meter relay last year.Â
Blankenship Anchors World DMR Record
Gophers All-American and Stillwater native Ben Blankenship anchored a new world distance medley relays for Team USA at the IAAF/BTC World Relays in Nassau, Bahamas. The relay squad clocked a 9:15.50 to break Kenya's nine-year old record as the U.S. won its second-straight Golden Baton at the meet.Â
