Streich Advances in USATF Junior 800

EUGENE, Ore. (GopherSports.com) –Incoming Gophers freshman Shane Streich opened the 2015 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships with a notable performance on Friday afternoon, leading all runners in the 800-meter semifinals.
The six-time state champion runner from Waseca, Minn., ran a 1:51.21 on Friday afternoon at Hayward Field to qualify for Saturday’s finals at 6:23 p.m. CT.
Meanwhile, former Gophers All-American Harun Abda closed out his competition at the 2015 USATF Outdoor Championships by running a 1:47.05 in the 800 meter semifinals. Abda finished 11th in the event – missing the qualifying mark by less than a second.
Former Gophers All-American Ben Blankenship will be in action on Saturday in the 1,500 meter finals at 4:20 p.m. Blankenship led his heat and finished third overall in Thursday’s semifinals with a time of 3:44.86.
Fellow Gophers All-American alum Hassan Mead, who qualified for the 2015 IIAF World Championships in August with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters, will not run in Sunday’s 5,000-meter competition.
