The University of Minnesota men's tennis team was named a 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic team along with three players earning an ITA Scholar-Athlete award, the ITA announced Thursday.

"We are proud of this team's achievements in school," Head Coach Geoff Young said. "Success in the classroom and success on the court are linked, and we look forward to more in the future."

Eric Frueh, Mathieu Froment and Matic Spec were all named ITA Scholar-Athletes. In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA, NAIA or Junior/Community College eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).

Froment earned an ITA Scholar-Athlete award all four seasons at Minnesota. Frueh was an ITA Scholar-Athlete three years. Both Froment and Frueh were also named Big Ten distinguished Scholar athletes for their success in the classroom this year. Spec is a first timer on the ITA Scholar-Athlete list coming off his freshman year. As a team this is the fifth straight year the Gophers have been named an ITA All-Academic team.
