Summer Update: Ruben Weber

Throughout the summer we have been catching up with the players on the Gophers men's tennis team. We recently sat down with Ruben Weber who just got back into town from Germany to see what he has been up to this summer.
Gopher Sports: What have you been up to so far this summer? Have you seen any of the other players? Any big plans the rest of it?
Ruben Weber: I went back to Germany to my dad's house and pretty much just hung out with friends. I taught some tennis lessons so worked a little bit. I played a few tournaments with the Germany national team where we won third league and moved up to second league for next year.
I started out weak because the transition of playing on the clay courts was so weird for me. In the end it got a lot better. I ended up playing and winning.
I talked to some of the graduated seniors and they are just working pretty much. I played against former player Leandro Toledo in one of the tournaments this summer… and it is pretty funny because he still beat me.
GS: Best spot to hang out on campus and why?
RW: Just at friend's houses and at an apartment complex called the Elysian. It is a spot where a lot of my friends live and hang out.
GS: If you could go on vacation with any one teammate and anywhere in the world where would you go and why?
RW: I would pick Mathieu Froment and I would go to Miami. It would be something more exotic than we are used to in Minnesota. It would be nice to go somewhere warmer.
(On why he would pick Mathieu) We have been friends for a long time and he is just easy to hang out with and have a good time with. There is always a funny story happening around him as well.
GS: What teammate would you pick to partner up with for survival in the Hunger Games and why?
RW: Leandro Toledo because he always lucks out. He can't lose in 50/50 situations. I would just pick him and stay right behind him because he can't lose.
GS: What actor/actress would you choose to portray you in a movie and why?
RW: Bradley Cooper, he is my favorite actor
GS: If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?
RW: To teleport because to be wherever you want to go would be just like (snap sound) and there you are. It would save a lot of costs for me with traveling.
GS: What are you most excited for when the school year starts back up?
RW: The team to get back together. I have not seen those guys in two months now. I want to see how their summers went and what kind of shape they are in. We have a Big Ten Title to defend so we will see how that goes. We lost half our team but we have a good attitude. It is more about working hard this year and sticking together as one team.
