Minnesota's season-opening 36 holes were cut short by darkness on Sunday. Play was suspended as the sun set while a handful of groups were still on the course at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.
The second round will resume at 7:30 a.m. Monday for those groups. When the round is complete, teams and players will be regrouped for a 9:15 shotgun start.
Tom Vining, playing on the Gophers' second team, led the charge for Minnesota on Day 1. The freshman is tied for fourth after turning in rounds of 2-over 73 and 1-under 70. He made six birdies on the day. The second team, whose team finish will not count for the Gophers or against other teams, is in 12th place.
Riley Johnson led Minnesota's first lineup, which is 14th, and is tied for 24th individually. He shot a 75 in the first round and has an incomplete second round score. The sophomore was 2 over with three holes remaining.
Junior Grady Meyer also shot a 75 in Round 1 with the first team, and had six birdies on the day. He was 4 over in his afternoon round through 16.
Second-teamer Matt Rachey's first-round 74 was the day's best completed score by someone other than Vining. The junior is tied for 53rd.
Along with Vining, transfer Justin Doeden (tied for 44th at 10 over) and freshman Peter Jones (tied for 67th at 16 over) also made their Minnesota debuts Sunday. All three newcomers played on the "B" team.
Oklahoma is in the lead with a partially completed second round. The Sooners are 5 over, 11 strokes ahead of Baylor. The Bears' combined score of 584 for the day is locked in.
The Sooners' Luke Kwon leads with two holes to go in his second round. He is 3 under and carded a 70 in Round 1. His third-place teammate (1 under overall through 15 in the second) and Iowa State's Nick Voke (-2) are the only other players under par.
