7 Gophers Earn Weekly Honors

MINNEAPOLIS--- Seven Gophers earned Big Ten/WCHA weekly honors, capping a successful week for the Maroon and Gold.

Men's Hockey sweeps Big Ten Honors

Michael Brodzinski was tabbed as the Big Ten's first star of the week. The junior tallied four points including a hat trick in a sweep over Wisconsin. Brodzinski became the first defenseman ever score a hat-trick as a member of the Big Ten.

Hudson Fasching was named the Big Ten's second star of the week. The junior led all Big Ten skaters with five points over the weekend. Fasching scored two goals, including one 19 seconds into Friday's game, and added three assists in a sweep of the Badgers.

Eric Schierhorn earned Big Ten third star of the week honors as he posted a .964 save percentage, a 1.00 GAA, a 2-0-0 record and earned his third career shut out during this weekend's action. The freshman goalie also registered his first career point with an assist in Saturday's victory.

Brodzinski, Fasching, Schierhorn and Gopher Hockey face off against in-state rivals this weekend as they compete in the North Star College Cup at the Xcel Energy Center. Ticket information can be found here.

Men's Gymnastics: Zach Liebler tabbed as gymnast of the week

Junior Zach Liebler's performance against Penn State earned him his first Big Ten Gymnast of the week honors. Liebler claimed first place on floor exercise with a career high 15.850 and earned second place on vault with a 15.000. His award winning performance helped the Gophers to a 432.750-418.500 victory over the Nittany Lions.

Liebler and the Gophers host Nebraska and the UMN Club team at the Sports Pavilion, Saturday at 7:00 p.m. CT. Ticket information can be found here.

Women's Gymnastics: Hanna Nordquist earns Event Specialist of the week

Senior Hanna Nordquist was named Big Ten Event Specialist of the week after her performance on the balance beam last weekend. Nordquist finished first in the event, scoring a 9.950. This was the Otsego, Minn. native's first Big Ten weekly award.

Nordquist and the Gophers team travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State. The meet is set for Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.

Women's Basketball: Rachel Banham named to third straight Big Ten Honor Roll

For the third straight week, senior guard Rachel Banham has been named to the Big Ten's weekly Honor Roll. Banham scored 52 points over two games, leading the Gophers to victories over No. 20 Northwestern and on the road against rival Wisconsin. She also tallied four steals and nine rebounds over that two game span. This was the senior's fifth conference honor this season.

Women's Hockey: Sarah Potomak earns fifth WCHA Rookie of the Week award

Freshman Sarah Potomak was named WCHA Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season. Potomak tallied five points, two goals and three assists, in a sweep of in state rival St. Cloud State. Potomak leads all NCAA rookies in points, with 45, and assists, with 34. Potomak and the Gophers travel to Bemidji State this weekend to take on the Beavers.
