Becker Wins Winter Nationals 50 Free

Results
The Gophers men and women each earned a gold medal on the second day of the AT&T Winter National Championships.
MEN
Bowe Becker won the 50-yard freestyle in 19.67, beating Olympian Tom Shields, who swam butterfly in the final after turning in the top preliminary time. Becker's prelims time was tied for the eighth fastest by a collegiate swimmer this season at 19.60.
Paul Fair also made the A final in the 50, finishing seventh in 20.12. Hunter Doerr, Noah Busch and Daryl Turner all swam in the C final. (Times to be added after they are posted online.)
Minnesota's 400 medley relay team of Turner, Conner McHugh, Fair and Becker placed second in 3:12.41.
John Bushman posted a personal-record 1:49.10 to win the B final of the 200 individual medley. McHugh was second in the C final in 1:49.10.
Logan Redondo swam a 4:25.26 to finish second in the 500 free C final.
WOMEN
The Gophers won their third relay of the meet as Tevyn Waddell, Lindsey Horejsi, Danielle Nack and Zoe Avestruz finished the 400 medley relay in 3:34.15. The same quartet won the 200 medley relay on Wednesday, and three of those team members were also on the winning 800 free relay.
Brooke Zeiger highlighted the team's individual performances with a silver in the 500 free. She was just 0.22 off of first place with a time of 4:39.33. Erin Emery joined her in the final and clocked a 4:47.95.
Danielle Nack finished sixth in the 50 free in 22.62. Zoe Avestruz won the B final in 22.53, tying her personal record. Lindsey Horejsi was fourth in 22.84.
Tevyn Waddell won the 200 individual medley C final in 2:00.50.
