LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team won their sixth straight meet of the season after defeating the No. 14 Nebraska Cornhuskers, 196.300-196.100.
The Maroon and Gold led the entirety of the night in the Rumble N' Tumble meet that was run in conjunction with Nebraska wrestling who took on Northwestern. "The team was great tonight," said head coach Jenny Hansen. "We hit 24 for 24 routines and were much better on our landings throughout the meet. The team had great energy throughout and really handled the distractions of the dual meet format."
"Tonight, I think the team did a great job handling a totally new environment with various distractions we aren't used to," said senior Lindsay Mable. "Being at a Rumble N' Tumble style meet brought in lots of fans and noise, which was really awesome for us to be in. I'm so proud to be a part of this team who works so hard every day in the gym and we're seeing the hard work pay off! We pushed on every event tonight and had some phenomenal routines to show for it. Personally, I think floor was our best event and we showed how hard we worked on our landings this week...and we had fun doing it! We're excited to get back in the gym to keep working on the little things and continue getting better!"
In the first rotation of the night, Bars, Mable and junior Bailie Holst tied for the event title with identical scores of 9.875. Sophomore Abby DeMuse followed Grace Williams and Jennie Laeng of Nebraska who tied for third (9.850) for fifth place with a score of 9.825.
The Gophers moved to the Uneven Bars for the second rotation, where juniors Rachel Haines and Bailey Abernathy tied for second place overall with scores of 9.850. Mable tied for fourth overall with Hollie Blanske of Nebraska with marks of 9.825.
