Gophers Move Up on Day 2 of Big Tens

The Gophers moved up on night two of the 2016 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. Minnesota is currently in fourth place with 308 team points. A stacked Maroon and Gold 1-meter diving final and a school record from Jakub Maly led tonight's effort.
Manny Pollard earned a bronze medal in 1-meter diving after scoring 386.80 points. Fellow senior Dylan Zoe followed for fourth place (365.40). Matt Barnard picked up sixth (326.40). Minnesota's three divers in the championship final was the greatest of any team in the conference.
Jakub Maly broke the University of Minnesota school record in the 200 IM with a time of 1:44.53. Adam Mitchell previously held the school record at 1:44.64, set in 2006. This is Maly's third varsity record. The junior now holds the program's top times in the 200 IM, 400 IM and 200 breast. Jon Thielen finished with a time of 1:47.66 for 24th place.
Freshman Bowe Becker led the Gopher effort in the 50 free, finishing seventh with a time of 19.68--tied with his personal record set in prelims. Paul Fair finished tenth in the event with a 19.75. Noah Busch took 23rd with a 20.22.
Minnesota's Daryl Turner, Conner McHugh, Fair and Becker combined for a 400 medley relay time of 3:09.86 for sixth place.
ACTION CONTINUES
The 2016 Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will resume on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. CT at the Boilermaker Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Ind. The 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back prelims will be contested. 3-meter diving prelims will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT.
