Gopher Diving Shines at NCAA Championships

The Golden Gophers placed 20th at the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships tonight in Atlanta, Ga. Minnesota totaled 41 team points, led by diving duo Manny Pollard and Matt Barnard. This was Minnesota's best finish since 2013, and second-highest mark in the past five years. The Gophers will look to further develop in the pool and diving well in the season to come.
Senior Pollard closed out his collegiate career with a fifth-place finish in platform diving with a score of 393.75. The performance was the highest finish of his NCAA Championships career, and third All-America honor. Barnard finished ninth in the event with a score of 399.15, picking up his second accolade of the meet.
Four Gophers total competed in platform diving. Senior Dylan Zoe finished 21st (348.95), while rookie LeBlang picked up 39th (277.85). This was coach Wenbo Chen's second-straight year qualifying four divers at the NCAA Championships.
Conner McHugh placed 26th in the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.51, while teammate Jakub Maly followed for 27th (1:56.58).
Freshman Bowe Becker took 40th in the 100 free with a 43.66.
The Gophers 400 free relay finished 21st with a time of 2:54.52.
