The Gophers will head to Tempe, Ariz. to compete in their penultimate competition before the Big Ten Tournament. The Gophers will be competing in the ASU Thunderbird Invitational for the second straight year.
The event will run April 2-3, 2016, starting with 36 holes played on Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m. CT with the final round teeing off at the same time on Sunday.
The travel squad: Rúnar Arnorsson, Jon DuToit, Riley Johnson, Peter Jones, and Justin Doeden will represent the Gophers. Jones will be making his debut in the Gopher starting five after a good showing in team qualifying rounds.
"We had qualifying at Edinburgh and Troy Burne, and Pete played well. Pete ended up tying for second in the qualifier, and we're taking him," said Head Coach John Carlson. "It's going to be a fun event for him to kind of get his feet wet in the college scene. (He has played two events as an individual.) This will be his first test as a teammate. It's going to be a different environment, but he'll do well."
The field: The Gophers will join host Arizona State as well as Cal Poly, California, Hawaii, Iowa, Iowa State, Princeton, San Diego, San Diego State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State and UC Davis.
Three of the teams, Arizona State, California, and San Diego State, are currently own top-20 team rankings, according to Golfweek. There will also be three players ranked in the top-30 individually.
The course: ASU Karsten Golf Course will play as a par-71, with a yardage of 7,002.
"It's kind of straight in front of you. There are definitely a lot of birdies out there, if you're hitting it right," DuToit said.
Notes: *This event will be the spring debut for Jones
*The Gophers finished 10th at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational last year. Rúnar Arnorsson had the best score on the team, finishing in a tie for 28th.
*Arizona State won the event last year, with Jon Rahm winning the individual crown for the second straight year.
