Spec Named All-Big Ten

Matic Spec has been named First Team All-Big Ten for his second straight year, the conference announced Thursday.

"Matic is very deserving of this honor," head coach Geoff Young said. "He works hard and takes ownership in the development of his tennis. Urban (Ljubic) and I are very pleased to see him get recognized as All-Big Ten."

Spec is 15-12 this season overall and has a 12-10 dual match record. He played at the No. 1 spot in all but one match going 11-10 there. He took on six ranked opponents in dual match play and picked up a big win against No. 75, at the time, Jathan Malik of Michigan.

On the doubles side Spec has been just as strong with a 17-9 record. He is 10-3 and ranked No. 30 with teammate Felix Corwin. The two of them have beat the No. 6 ranked duo of Arjun Kadhe and Julian Cash twice this season including in the ITA Central Region Championship match.

He is 7-5 with teammate Jeremy Lynn and played one match with Jesse Sprinkel.

Spec also earned a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The students chosen are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
