Donnelly Earns Sixth Hammer Throw Victory

LAWRENCE, Kan. (GopherSports.com) - University of Minnesota men's track & field senior Sean Donnelly remains unbeaten in the hammer throw this season after picking up his sixth-straight win at Kansas' Rock Chalk Classic on Saturday.
Donnelly was one of six Gophers throwers in action at the meet - all of whom posted top-10 finishes.
The Maroon & Gold boasted three of the top finishers in the hammer throw behind Donnelly's winning toss of 69.65 meters (228-06 ft.). Minnesota also featured a ninth-place finish by Mac Riedy at 57.58 meters (188-11 ft.) while Viktor Stelter threw 55.82 meters (183-01 ft.) to finish one spot behind in 10th.
The Gophers added three more top-10 finishes in the discus with Sam Elsner finishing fourth at 54.04 meters (180-07 ft.), Luke Johnson coming in seventh at 50.50 meters (165-08 ft.) and Bryan Bjerk hitting 48.34 meters (158-07 ft.) to place ninth.
Meanwhile at the St. Mary's Open, three unattached freshmen posted top-10 finishes for the Maroon & Gold. The Gophers picked up a fourth-place showings from Jonathan Tharaldsen in the shot put at 14.79 meters (48-06.25 ft.) and from Connor Rousemiller in the hammer throw at 52.44 meters (172-00 ft.). John Marita added a sixth-place finish in the discus with his toss of 44.30 meters (145-04 ft.) while Tharaldsen added his second top-10 finish of the day in eighth at 42.55 meters (139-07 ft.).
