Gophers Add Three Top-10 Finishes at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa (GopherSports.com) - On a rain-soaked day at Drake Stadium, the Minnesota men's track & field program closed out the 107th Drake Relays with a trio of top-10 finishes on Saturday following the team's 4x800 meter relay win on Friday night.
The Maroon & Gold distance medley relay team of Christian Skaret, Nate Roese, Goaner Deng and Derek Wiebke led the way on Saturday in Des Moines with a third-place finish at the Blue Oval, coming across the line at 9:49.21, while the sprint medley relay squad of Brad Neumann, Jack Wellenstein, Shane Streich and Mitch Hechsel clocked a 3:26.90 to finish eighth.
All-American Ryan Lockard came in 10th in the high jump after the competition moved indoors due to rainy conditions. Lockard cleared 2.13 meters (6-11.75 ft.). Rashawn Fountain closed out the Drake Relays for Minnesota in the 400-meter hurdles, running 54.15 to finish 23rd.
Hechsel, Streich, Wiebke and Deng combined to win the 4x800 meter relay on Friday night with a time of 7:23.54 - giving the Maroon & Gold its sixth overall title in the event and its fourth in the last six years. The win also stands as Minnesota's 14th overall relay title at the Drake Relays and 56th overall title at the meet.
Minnesota's throwers will be in action later today at Kansas' Rock Chalk Classic and the St. Mary's Open.
