Two Local Meets Up Next For Gophers

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track & field team will compete locally at two meets this week in its final week of preparation for the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The Tommie Twilight is set for Wednesday followed by the Hamline Meet of the Un-Saintly Friday and Saturday.
About the Tommie Twilight
The University of St. Thomas hosts the Tommie Twilight at O'Shaughnessy Stadium at 4 p.m. CT Wednesday.
About the Meet of the Un-Saintly
Hamline University is set to host the Meet of the Un-Saintly at Klas Track & Field this Friday and Saturday. Men's and women's hammer throw, men's and women's triple jump, and men's pole vault are scheduled for Friday with all other events set for Saturday. Friday's action gets underway at 3 p.m. CT, and competition begins at 11 a.m. CT Saturday.
USTFCCCA Team Rankings
Minnesota is up four places to No. 32 of 195 ranked teams in this week's USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings with 59.10 points. The Gophers are second in the Midwest Region in this week's USTFCCCA Regional Team Computer Rankings behind No. 1 Kansas State.
BTN to Provide Live B1G Championship Coverage
On Sunday, May 15 at 1:40 p.m. CT, the Big Ten Network will provide live coverage on BTN2Go, for the first time, of the Big Ten Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Nebraska. Coverage of the championships also will air on BTN that night at 6 p.m. CT.
Outdoor Program Records Fall
Kimberly Golding broke Minnesota's outdoor program record in the 100m hurdles at 13.11 seconds at the Rock Chalk Classic. She has broken her own record three times this season. The Gophers have posted all-time top-10 marks in 18 events this season, including Emma Spagnola (13.20 seconds, 100m hurdles), Madeline Strandemo (10:03.52, 3,000m steeple chase), and Lyndsey Thorpe (61.51m, 201-09, hammer throw) recording the second-best marks in program history in their respective events.
Gophers Break Four Indoor Records
The Gophers broke four program records during the 2016 indoor season, including the 400-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay, and pentathlon. Emerald Egwim (53.41) and Titania Markland (54.34) both broke the previous record in the 400m this indoor season. In the 60m hurdles, Kimberly Golding improved upon her own record (8.18 seconds). She and Emma Spagnola, ranked second in program history at 8.33 seconds, further improved Minnesota's top two times this season after both breaking the record for the first time last season.
Minnesota's 4x400-meter relay team of Kat Keller, Emerald Egwim, Erin Hawkins, and Titania Markland clocked a time of 3:35.33 to improve on the mark of 3:36.67 set by the team of Markland, Alena Brooks, Jessica Waldvogel, and Megan Geyen, which set the record and placed third at the 2014 Big Ten Indoor Championship.
Jess Lehman (Herauf) broke her own record in the pentathlon, scoring 4,393 points to win the pentathlon title at the Big Ten Championship. Lehman first broke the pentathlon record last season, improving on the mark of 4,218 points held by Liz Roehrig from 2008 to 2015.
2016 Indoor Season Ends with B1G Fourth-Place Finish
The Gophers capped the 2016 indoor season with a fourth-place showing at the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championship led by Titania Markland's 600-meter title and Jess Lehman's pentathlon title. Minnesota scored 89 points to finish fourth, its highest indoor team finish since also placing fourth in 2014. Michigan took home the team title with 109 points, followed by Purdue (102 points) and Penn State (96.50 points) in the top three.
Up Next: Big Ten Outdoor Championship
The Gophers head to the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships next Friday, May 13 through Sunday, May 15 hosted by the University of Nebraska. The three-day meet will take place at Ed Weir Stadium on the Nebraska campus. Minnesota looks to build on its third-place team showing at last year's outdoor meet.
