Abda Advances at Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. (GopherSports.com) - The most decorated All-American in Minnesota men's track & field history - Harun Abda - advanced to Saturday's 800 meter semifinals at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field.

The Fridley, Minn., native and 13-time All-American finished 13th overall and automatically advanced with a third-place finish in his first round heat. Abda clocked a 1:47.88. Five-time All-American and Gophers captain Goaner Deng closed out his collegiate career with a 28th-place showing in the race, clocking a 1:49.61. All-American alum Hassan Mead pulled out of the 10,000 meters.

Abda returns to action with the 800 meter semifinals on Saturday, July 2 at 2:00 p.m. CT while All-American alum Zach Siegmeier competes in the pole vault qualifying at 12:30 p.m. All-American senior Sean Donnelly is in action in the hammer throw on Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. CT while All-American alum Ben Blankenship starts the 1,500 meters on Thursday, July 7 at 9:21 p.m. CT.
