Gophers Earn NCAA-Best 23 Academic Honors

MINNEAPOLIS - Twenty-three Golden Gopher women's track & field student-athletes have been recognized as 2016 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field honorees, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Thursday.

Minnesota and Stanford finished tied for the most individual honorees with 23 each. Penn State was third with 18 honorees, North Dakota State had 16, and Oklahoma rounded out the top five with 15 award recipients.

Along with 23 individual awards, Minnesota received All-Academic Team distinction. The Gophers' 3.49 grade point average led the 11 Big Ten Conference team honorees. In total, 220 women's teams that were named All-Academic by the USTFCCCA.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic individual award, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
