Golding Places Ninth at Jamaican Olympic Trials

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota senior Kimberly Golding placed ninth in the 100-meter hurdles semifinal round at the Jamaica National Senior Championships at National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica, Sunday evening.
Golding posted a time of 13.95 seconds to place third in her heat, which faced a head wind measuring -3.4. The top eight finishers moved on to the 100m hurdles final led by semifinal winner Megan Simmonds of Utech (13.06 seconds).
Joining Golding at the Jamaican Olympic Trials was Gopher senior Titania Markland, who placed 14th overall in the 400-meter dash in 53.68 seconds.
Olympic qualifying competition continues for the Gophers at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Monday with Minnesota alum Jamie Cheever in the 3,000m steeplechase qualifying round at 6:03 p.m. CT. Cheever is joined in Track Town by current Gophers Nicolle Murphy (javelin) and Jess Lehman (heptathlon) along with fellow Minnesota alumni Gabriele Grunewald (1,500m, 5,000m), Heather Kampf (1,500m), and Liz Podominick (fourth place, discus).
