Abda Finishes Seventh at Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. (GopherSports.com) -- Thirteen-time Gopher All-American Harun Abda finished seventh in the 800 meters on Monday at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Hayward Field.

The Fridley, Minn., native, who won six Big Ten titles with the Maroon & Gold and still owns six school records including both 800 meter marks, clocked a 1:47.05 in the event finals.

Meanwhile, eight-time All-American and nine-time Big Ten champion Hassan Mead joined the 5,000 meter field on Monday and advanced to the event finals on Saturday, July 9 at 7:20 p.m. CT. The Minneapolis, Minn., native ran 13:48.81 in the opening round with the 10th-best qualifying mark.

The Gophers will also feature All-American Sean Donnelly in the hammer throw competition on Wednesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. CT and All-American alum Ben Blankenship in the 1,500 meters starting Thursday, July 7 at 9:21 p.m. CT.
