Gophers Finish Day One in Fifth Place

TOLEDO, OHIO---The Gophers sit in fifth after two rounds at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio. The team shot 296 in the first round and improved as the day went on, shooting 287 in the second round. Minnesota totaled 583 on the day (+15).
Freshman Thomas Longbella led the way for the Gophers with a 36-hole score of 143 (+1). After a 3-over 74 in round one, Longbella finished with a strong second round, shooting 69 and surging to 16th place. He tallied three birdies to just one bogey in the afternoon round.
Rúnar Arnorsson is right behind Longbella with a score of 145 (+3). The junior finished his day with an impressive eagle on 13. He shot 73 in the second round, putting him in 22nd place.
Senior Justin Doeden shot 74 in round one and 73 in round two, good enough for 30th place.
Riley Johnson shot 76 in the first round. However, he recovered with a score of 72 in the second. He is currently in 34th.
Junior Alex Uloth and senior individual William Leaf round out the Gopher travel squad in 60th and 69th.
Duke leads the field after day one, shooting 10 under. Auburn's Matt Gilchrest is the individual leader with a score of 136.
