Gophers Lead Denver, Wyoming on Day 1

The University of Minnesota men's and women's swimming and diving teams both lead Denver and Wyoming after Day 1 of dual meet competition in Denver. The Gopher men are leading Wyoming 125.50-41.50 and leading Denver 96.50 to 70.50. The women are leading Wyoming 118-49 and leading Denver 93-74.
WOMEN
Kierra Smith won the 100 breaststroke by .01, touching in 1:02.63. Lindsey Horejsi was third in 1:03.21.
Danielle Nack's time of 2:00.95 won the 200 fly. Rina Krupsky's 2:08.45 placed fifth, with Breanne Siwicki (2:09.58) in sixth.
Chantal Nack won the 200 freestyle in 1:50.90. Abigail Raatz (1:54.45) and Kaia Grobe (1:55.31) were fifth and sixth.
Tevyn Waddell won the 100 backstroke in 54.80.
Zoe Avestruz took first in the 50 free with a time of 23.36. As in the 200, Raatz (24.39) and Grobe (24.41) were fifth and sixth.
The Gophers won both relays contested on Friday night. Waddell, Horejsi, Danielle Nack and Avestruz opened the meet with a 1:41.12 in the 200 medley relay. Chantal Nack, Danielle Nack, Avestruz and Waddell concluded the session with a 7:27.21 in the 800 free relay.
Lexi Tenenbaum (320.95) and Mariam Khamis (292.55) placed second and third on the 3-meter diving board. Beth Etterman (247.15) was fifth.
Smith (2:07.03) and Danielle Bergeson (2:07.06) finished third and fourth in the 200 IM.
Siwicki placed third in the 1,000 free in 10:25.81. Lauren Lalumiere (10:29.66) and Erin Emery (10:29.93) were fifth and sixth.
MEN
Minnesota swept the top three spots in the 200 IM. Jakub Maly (1:50.90) finished ahead of teammates Jonathon Thielen (1:51.41) and John Bushman (1:51.63).
Paul Fair and Maly had a 1-2 finish in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:39.51 and 1:40.51, respectively. Nick Saulnier (1:41.44) took fourth.
Daryl Turner won the 100 backstroke in 47.63. Tyler Klatt (50.93) and Noah Busch (51.32) placed fourth and fifth.
Bowe Becker posted his sixth sub-20 time in the 50 free, winning in 19.95. Turner (20.83) tied for fifth place.
Alan LeBlang won 1-meter diving with a score of 316.35. Lucas Cooperman (278.65) was fourth and Jeremy Moser (232.30) seventh.
The Gophers ended Friday's session with a win in the 800 free relay, as Fair, Tuomas Pokkinen, Saulnier and Redondo edged out Denver in 6:44.95. To start their evening, Turner, McHugh, Fair and Becker (1:28.70) tied for second in the 200 medley relay.
Nick Plachinski (9:32.98), Michael Messner (9:34.55) and Logan Redondo (9:36.66) claimed the second through fourth spots in the 1,000 freestyle.
Eric Sande (54.99) placed second in the 100 breast, while Conner McHugh (55.75) tied for third and Bushman (56.22) was sixth.
Nick Orf was the Gophers' top finisher in the 200 fly, in third place (1:50.77).
