MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Two-time Big Ten Goaltender of the Year Eric Schierhorn of the Gopher Hockey program is among 20 goalies named to the Mike Richter Award Watch List for 2017-18, according to a release today from Let's Play Hockey and the Herb Brooks Foundation.

Now in its fifth year, the Mike Richter Award annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men's hockey. This year's honoree will be announced at the 2018 NCAA Men's Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn.

A native of Anchorage, Alaska, Schierhorn repeated as the conference goaltender of the year and a First Team All-Big Ten selection last year as a sophomore. His 23 wins, five shutouts and 984 saves were most among Big Ten goaltenders while the netminder also posted career bests for save percentage (.908) and goals against average (2.61).

The junior has made 75-straight starts for the Gophers entering the 2017-18 season with a 43-29-3 career record. His next start will move him into a tie with Brant Nicklin of Minnesota Duluth (1996-98) for 10th all-time in NCAA history for consecutive starts. John Lothrup (1964-66) holds the Gopher Hockey record for consecutive starts by a goalie at 78.
