Gophers Prospect Honored by Star Tribune

MINNEAPOLIS ââ'¬" Signed Gophers prospect Khalid Hussein has been named the Star Tribune's first-ever Metro Boys' Cross Country Runner of the Year after capping his senior cross country season with a state title and an All-America honor for Wayzata High School.

A native of Plymouth, Minn., Hussein closed out his prep cross country career by winning the 2017 MSHSL Class AA Cross Country Championship in November as Wayzata High School repeated as team champions. Hussein ran the 5,000-meter course in 15:22.6.

He went on to finish 10th overall at the 2017 Nike Cross Country Nationals earlier this month ââ'¬" clocking a 15:28.5 to earn All-America honors while Wayzata finished 11th at the prestigious meet.

Hussein is also a three-time state medalist in the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters.
