Bacon Is NCAA Runner-Up in 1-Meter

Freshman Sarah Bacon's runner-up finish in 1-meter diving was one of Minnesota's four All-America performances on Day of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis. The Golden Gophers are in 12th place with 52 points after seven events.
Three Gophers earned All-America status on the 1-meter diving board. Bacon turned in a score of 326.50 to finish second in her first career NCAA Championships event. She was only 6.10 points behind Alison Gibson of Texas.
Senior Yu Zhou collected her sixth All-America award of the past three years, coming in fourth at 317.95. Lexi Tenenbaum placed 14th with a score of 286.75 in the consolation final to earn her second All-America certificate. This is the seventh consecutive season in which the Gopher women have earned three or more diving All-America awards.
The Gophers' 400-yard medley relay earned All-America Honorable Mention with a 12th-place showing. Tevyn Waddell, Kierra Smith, Danielle Nack and Zoe Avestruz combined for a time of 3:30.85 in the consolation final.
Minnesota's 200 free relay finished 20th. Danielle Nack, Avestruz, Waddell and Lindsey Horejsi turned in a 1:29.38.
Chantal Nack placed the highest of any individual Gophers swimmer, finishing 32nd in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:42.10. Brooke Zeiger returned to the competition with a time of 4:47.54 for 60th.
Avestruz placed 42nd in the 50 free with a time of 22.53.
Day 3 of the NCAA Championships will begin at 9 a.m. CT Friday. Minnesota will have participants in the 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3-meter diving and 200 medley relay.
