Gophers Claim Six Titles at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program picked up five titles on Saturday at the Cardinal Classic as the Maroon & Gold closed out the event at Stanford with six titles.
After running the seventh-fastest 110-meter hurdles to win the Tomcat Twilight last week, Jon Tollefson continued to climb the Gophers all-time performers list at Cobb Track and Angell Field. Tollefson won the event with a new personal record of 14.20, pushing the hurdler to sixth all-time at Minnesota. Eric Walker came in sixth at 14.53 - also a personal record.
Ryan Lockard picked up his first win of the outdoor season, winning the high jump at 2.14 meters (7-00.25 ft.) while Nick Bachinksi came in third at 2.08 meters (6-09.75 ft.).
Jonathan Webb led the 100 meters with a time of 10.79 while Jordan Charles came in third at 10.86 and Quinton Coleman finished eighth at 11.04.
The Gophers added a pair of titles in the relays as the 4x100 meter relay paced the field at 40.55 and the 4x400 meter relay also led the way at 3:08.51.
Bryan Bjerk picked up a fourth-place finish in the discus at 51.98 meters (170-06 ft.).
The Maroon & Gold put two in the top-10 of the 400 meters as Nate Roese finished fifth (47.43) and Jackson Wellenstein finished 10th (47.96).
Minnesota also picked up a pair of top-10 finishes in the triple jump with Jordan Charles finishing fifth (14.48 meter, 47-06.25 ft.) and Sammie Houston finishing eighth (13.96 meters, 45-09.75 ft.).
Glen Harold's pole vault win on Friday night kicked off the Cardinal Classic for the Gophers.
Meanwhile, four unattached Gopher freshmen picked up titles at Concordia-St. Paul's Holst Invitational on Saturday at SeaFoam Stadium in St. Paul. Chris Trotter won the 800 meters (1:50.42) with a new facility and meet record, Jon Nerdal picked up a win in the hammer throw (61.37 meters, 201-04 ft.) and Mason Roomes won the long jump (7.24 meters, 23-09.00 ft.). Additionally, Minnesota boasted the top eight finishers in the 1,500 meters led by Hamza Ali's victory (3:52.74).
