Gophers Kick Off 108th Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa (GopherSports.com) - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program opened up the 108th annual Drake Relays on Thursday night with four top-10 finishes by the Maroon & Gold.
The Minnesota 4x1,600 meter relay team of Wayde Hall, Connor Olson, Joey Duerr and Evan Ferlic finished fourth at Drake Stadium on Thursday, closing out the race in 16:42.59.
The Gophers added a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's unseeded 800 meters to kick off the meet as Josh Tracy came in sixth at 1:52.88 and Matthew Rosen finished 10th at 1:53.49.
Matt Welch closed out the night for Minnesota with an eighth-place showing in the unseeded 5,000 meters. Welch clocked a 14:18.95.
The Maroon & Gold continue to compete the 108th annual Drake Relays over the next two days at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. An additional contingency of Minnesota competitors will be in action on Saturday at the St. Mary's Open in Winona.
