Distance Gophers Open Competition at Drake

DES MOINES, Iowa ââ'¬" Unattached rookie Megan Hasz finished as the 5,000-meter runner-up, the Gophers' 4x1600-meter relay team came in sixth, and Emily Betz led the attached Gophers with an eighth-place showing in the 10,000-meter run as members of the Minnesota women's track & field distance corps raced at the Drake Relays Thursday night.
All 12 Gophers competing at the meet made their Drake Relays debut, including Abby Lange, Bailey Ness, Tess Wasowicz, and Patty O'Brien, who placed sixth in the 4x1600m relay in 19:40.84.
Betz led the Gophers in the 10,000m in a career-best 35:52.69 for eighth place. Molly Eastman (career-best 36:17.09) took 14th, followed by Carlin Schulz (36:45.00) in 17th place. Haley Rasmussen came in 21st in her first collegiate 10,000m race in 37:19.22 while Abby Kargol was 25th (38:05.67).
Rookies Megan Hasz and Bethany Hasz ran the 5,000m run while competing unattached Thursday night at the Drake Relays as well. M. Hasz's runner-up finish saw her record a career-best time of 16:08.47, which would rank second among all-time Gophers. B. Hasz also recorded a PR, running 16:24.06 for 11th place in a field of 28 runners.
Along with competing at the Drake Relays, the Gophers are also in action at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson College, the Janis Rider Invitational hosted by Macalester College, and the Longhorn Invitational hosted by Texas this weekend.
