COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 5 University of Minnesota women's hockey team led 2-1 after two periods but surrendered two third-period goals in a 3-2 loss to No. 7 Ohio State at OSU Ice Rink Friday night.
Minnesota (17-7-2, 10-5-2-0 WCHA) received goals from Alex Woken and Grace Zumwinkle, and Sydney Baldwin assisted both tallies. Sidney Peters made 35 saves as the Gophers were outshot 38-33 for the game.
Ohio State (16-5-4, 9-2-4-3 WCHA) led 1-0 after the first period on a goal by Emma Maltaias, but the Buckeyes needed late goals from Charly Dahlquist and Liz Schepers to secure the win. OSU was led by Kassidy Sauve's 31-save effort.

The Buckeyes took a 1-0 lead just 1:20 into the game when Maltais converted on a 3-on-1 rush. OSU outshot Minnesota, 14-10, over the game's opening 20 minutes.
The Gophers rallied for a pair of second-period goals. Woken scored the game-tying goal on the power play off assists from Baldwin and Olivia Knowles at the 5:07 mark of the middle frame before Zumwinkle gave the Maroon & Gold the lead just 3:17 later. Taylor Wente won a faceoff back to Baldwin at the point, where she ripped a slapshot through traffic that Zumwinkle redirected past Sauve.
OSU tied the game midway through the final stanza when Charly Dahlquist scored on the power play at 10:48 before Schepers netted the game-winner with 3:56 remaining. Despite nearly 90 seconds with an extra attacker, the Gophers could not find the equalizer.
Both teams were 1-for-3 on the power play.
The game marked Minnesota's first road loss of the season after the Gophers started the season a perfect 10-0-0 on the road during the first half of the regular season.
Minnesota and Ohio State meet in game two of this weekend's series at 2:07 p.m. CT Saturday at OSU Ice Rink.
