Gophers Earn B1G Weekly Honors

MINNEAPOLIS - Three student-athletes of the Minnesota men's and women's swimming and diving team earned Big Ten weekly honors this week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday.
Junior Nick Yang earned his first collegiate Diver of the Week honor following first place finishes in the 1-meter (360.55) and 3-meter (404.40) at the triple duals. Yang also captured a third place finish on the platform dives with a score of 354.90. Minnesota's last Big Ten Diver of the Week dates back to Dec. 7, 2016 when Matt Barnard received the honor.
Sophomore Sarah Bacon continues to sizzle earning her second Diver of the Week award this season. The Indianapolis native recorded first place finishes in the 1-meter (329.55) and 3-meter (345.05) at the triple dual meet. Both scores posted were NCAA Zone qualifying.
Freshman Mackenzie Padington collects her third Freshman of the Week honors, with her last award coming on Dec. 6. Padington captured a first place finish this past weekend at the triple duals in the 200 free posting a NCAA B standard time of 1:46.60. She also recorded second place finishes in the 500 free (4:51.77) and 1000 free (9:50.60).
Minnesota returns to the water with the Big Ten meet. The women will compete in Columbus, Ohio Feb. 14-17, while the men host Feb. 21-24.
