Gophers Head to Texas for Final Fall Tournament

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota men's golf team heads to the Lone Star State for the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate on Monday, in its final competition of the fall season.
The tournament, hosted by No. 24 Baylor, features fellow Big Ten competitors Iowa and Michigan, along with No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 19 Arkansas, No. 21 SMU, Charlotte, Houston, Kent State, NC State, North Carolina, Pepperdine and USTA.
The tournament was originally supposed to take place at the Royal Oaks Country Club, but due to heavy rains in recent days, competition will now take place at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas. The first two rounds will be played on Monday with the final 18 holes on Tuesday.
Senior Peter Jones, junior Noah Rasinski, sophomores Angus Flanagan and Evan Long, and freshman Lincoln Johnson will make up Minnesota's team for the final fall outing.
The Gophers will have been away from the course for two weeks by the time they tee off on Monday. They last competed at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate in Ala., placing seventh out of 12th teams.
Flanagan led the way for Minnesota in its last tournament as he posted the best finish of the fall and the best score to par by any Gophers golfer with a one-under 209 and in a tie for sixth. It also marked the second-best outing of his Minnesota career. He has the top scoring average on the team this fall at 71.75.
Johnson came in second among Gophers at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, where he shot a seven-over 217 and tied for 30th. It was his second-best finish as a Gopher so far, helping him rank second on the squad with a 72.42 scoring average.
Rasinski tied for his best score of the year in Alabama with a 10-over 220 as he placed 39th. The trio of Rasinski, Johnson and Flanagan will be the three Gophers to finish the fall season with appearances in each tournament.
Jones will participate in his third team outing in Texas. Last time out, he recorded a career-best first round of 66 at the Jerry Pate, which also tied for the second-best round of the season so far. He finished competition with a 13-over 223 and in a tie for 44th.
Long's last appearance with the team was at the Marquette Intercollegiate Sept. 30 - Oct. 2. He finished with a 226, 10 strokes over par, and in a tie for 45th. He currently sits third on the Gophers with an average of 72.78 per round.
