After a two-week hiatus, the Minnesota women's golf team will travel to the desert and wrap up the fall season at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
The Gophers are joined in the field by Augusta, Colorado State, Fresno State, Idaho, Long Beach State, Nebraska, Nevada Reno, Northern Arizona, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Portland State, San Francisco, Tulsa, UC Irvine, UC Riverside and host UNLV.
The tournament will take place at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev, with a par of 72. Minnesota will play one round apiece from Sunday through Tuesday. The Gophers have had previous success in the tournament and took a share of first place in the 2014 contest.
In its last appearance at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Colorado, Minnesota set the bar high with the team's best finish of the fall season. The Gophers carded a 901, 37-over par and came in 10th place, their first top 10 finish of the year.
The Gophers will take the same team from their last outing, Grace Kellar, Muyu Wu, Karen Zhang, Kate Lillie and Joanne Free to Nevada.
Kellar has led Minnesota in each of its fall tournaments, and had a great comeback in Colorado. The sophomore saved her best for last and shot for par in the final round with a 72, and finished with a 221, five-over par and in a tie for 17th. She has placed within the top 20 twice this season.
Senior Wu was Minnesota's best Saturday finisher at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate and carded an even 72, her best round of the season and third-best in her career. She finished the tournament with a nine-over 225 and tied for 33rd.
Zhang, a freshman, made her first team appearance in Colorado and got off to a strong start with a two-over 74 in her first and final rounds. She wrapped up competition with a 16-over 232 and tied for 69th.
Lillie improved in each round at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate, and that effort helped her to surge 11 spots on the leaderboard through the course of the tournament to finish in a tie for 72nd. She matched her season best for 18 holes with a 74 in the final round.
Free rounded out the Gophers contingent with a 234, 18-over par, and tied for 75th.
Tournament play begins on Sunday with tee times kicking off at 2 PM central time. Live scoring can be found at Golfstat in the link above.
