MINNEAPOLIS -- With the fall season over halfway complete, the Minnesota men's golf team heads to Alabama Monday to compete in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 8-9, in Vestavia Hills, Ala.

The tournament will be hosted by No. 3 Alabama at Old Overton Course, which is playing as a par-70 at 7,209 yards. The Gophers begin play Monday with 36 holes and wrap up the tournament with 18 on Tuesday.

Other ranked teams in the field include No. 14 Auburn, No. 18 UNLV and No. 19 Arkansas, in addition to Air Force, Army, BYU, Charlotte, Mississippi State, Samford, and UAB.

Minnesota's team contingent will consist of senior Peter Jones, juniors Thomas Longbella and Noah Rasinski, sophomore Angus Flanagan and freshman Lincoln Johnson. The Gophers are coming off of their second top-five finish of the fall season at last week's Marquette Intercollegiate.

Jones was a standout at Erin Hills last week, where he competed as an individual. In just his second tournament of the season, Jones led all Gophers with a one-over 217 and tied for 10th place. It was his fourth top-10 finish in his Minnesota career. This will be his first tournament of the fall competing as part of the team's top scoring unit.

Longbella and Flanagan were the team leaders at the Marquette Intercollegiate, with both claiming a share of 21st place with a four-over 220. It was Longbella's first tournament leading the team this season and Flanagan's second. The duo ranks first and second on the team this year in scoring average at 71.66 and 72.44, respectively.

Johnson also forged a big comeback in his third round at the Marquette Intercollegiate, countering four bogeys with four birdies and finishing with a one-over 72. He finished competition with a 226, 10-over par, and tied for 45th. Johnson's tied with Flanagan for second on the tema with a 72.44 scoring average.

Rasinski had favorable first and second rounds at Erin Hills, but a stunning third round with a season-best 68 saw him shave 10 strokes off of his Monday score and helped him surge into 30th place, his best finish at Minnesota.
