Gophers Post Top Times in Big Ten Win Over ACC

The Big Ten men and women led the ACC heading into the second day of the inaugural ACC/Big Ten Challenge and completed the sweep on Day two of the event, Sunday morning, in West Lafayette, Ind.
"It's an honor to coach in this conference," head coach Kelly Kremer said. "I am proud of how all of our student athletes and coaches represent the Big Ten. As for our Gophers, they played a major role in helping both sides win this weekend."
Women | Big Ten 251 ā 102 ACC
The Big Ten picked up where they left off Saturday evening and defeated the ACC by a final score of 251-102.
Mackenzie Padington earned the Gophers first individual win of the day, touching first in the 1000-free. Padington led for the majority of the race and finished with a final time of 9:34.06, the fastest time in the nation this season.

Lindsey Kozelsky competed in the 100-breast alongside Gopher teammate Rachel Munson. Kozelsky finished second in the 100-breast, with a mark of 58.70, the second-fastest time in the U.S. this year. Ā Munson finished fifth with her fastest time in the event this season, 1:00.75. Kozelsky additionally swam the second leg of the Big Ten 200-medley that finished second to start the meet, splitting 26.82.
Tevyn Waddell swam the 100-back during the second day of the meet. Waddell posted a top-5 national time, finishing in 52.48. Chantal Nack gained a fifth-place finish in the 200-free after hitting the wall in 1:46.04, a top-15 time in the nation.
In the final event of the day, Padington and Nack finished fifth in the 400-free relay for the Big Ten with splits of 50.43 and 49.10 respectively.
Kristen Hayden had another successful day in the diving well for the Big Ten. Hayden finished fifth with a score of 302.40. Xiao Fu competed in the 3 meter for her first action of the meet. Fu finished 11th with a final score of 277.40.

Men | Big Ten 179 ā 174 ACC
The men's meet came down to the wire as the Big Ten defeated the ACC by the narrowest of margins. Bowen Becker and Max McHugh posted top-times as the Big Ten were able to hold off the ACC in the final day of competition, 179 ā 174.
Becker posted the nation's top time on his way to a 50-free win. Becker beat all others to the wall in 19.62. The Las, Vegas native additionally split 42.30 and 19.38, finishing second and third in the 400-free and 200-medley relays for the Big Ten.

Max McHugh finished second in the 100-breast, touching behind the 2018 NCAA Champion. McHugh clocked a 52.19, the third-fastest time in the pool this year. McHugh also swam for the Big Ten in the 200-medley, splitting 23.05 in the second leg, for a first-place finish alongside a trio of Hoosiers, Fantoni, Lanza and Apple.

Matthew Thomas put up a top-15 national time in the 200-fly, touching in 1:46.10 for a sixth-place finish. Nick Saulnier also placed sixth in the 200-free while representing the Gophers for the Big Ten. Saulnier put up a time of 1:37.46 in the event. Thomas and Saulnier swam the 400-free relay for the Big Ten splitting 44.84 and 44.88 respectively for a seventh-place finish.
Nick Yang and Alan LeBlang each took six dives off of the tower for the first time this season. Nick Yang posted a 344.6 on his way to a sixth place finish while LeBlang finishes 12th with a final score of 310.05.

The Gophers will next be in action at the Iowa Invitational in Iowa City from Nov. 15 to Nov. 17.
