Gopher Invitational: Day 1

The University of Minnesota Men's tennis Program had a hot start on day one of the Gopher Invitational, going 7-1 in singles play, and 4-4 in doubles play. Minnesota was lead by junior Eli Ogilvy, who led the way by going undefeated in two doubles matches with his partner, Justyn Levin, and a win in his singles match as well.
Singles
With a near perfect clip of 7-1 on the day for doubles, Minnesota took control of their home invitational from the get-go. Vlad Lobak earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Huyhn of Denver, followed by a 6-4, 6-1 singles win by Ogilvy over Nuzhny of Wisconsin. Then, Justyn Levin earned a key come from behind three-set victory over Sweet of Wisconsin, winning 5-7, 6-4, 10-2. Freshman Sebastian Vile earned a win in his home court singles debut, winning 6-0, 6-4 over Fernandez of Denver, while senior Josip Krstanovic won 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 over Ros, also of Denver. Kaleb Dobbs fell in Minnesota's lone loss to Castelino of Denver in three sets, falling 2-6, 6-4, 6-0. Marino Alpeza and Jackson Allen closed out the day for singles with two wins. Alpeza defeated Pratt of Wisconsin 6-4, 6-1, while Allen dismantled Colton of WIsconsin 6-2, 6-4.
Doubles
Minnesota fared an even 4-4 in doubles play. Ogilvy and Levin held it down for the Gophers with two wins, defeating Nuzhny and Sweet of Wisconsin 6-4, then beating Meyers and Shanklin of Marquette 6-4 to complete their undefeated day. Dobbs and Lobak split their matches, first falling 0-6 to Huynh and Castelino of Denver, then earning a tough 6-3 win over Gota and Mariados of Notre Dame. Allen and Alpeza also split their doubles matches, first winning 6-3 against Colton and Pratt of Wisconsin, then falling 6-4 to Cory and Benkaim of Utah. Despite close matches, Vile and Krstanovic failed to record a win in doubles play, falling 6-3 to Ros and Fernandez of Denver and then losing 7-6(3) to Krill and O'Hoison of Wisconsin.
