SOUTH BEND, IND. - The Golden Gophers women's tennis team concluded the Notre Dame Invitational and their fall season schedule on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018.

The final day of play at the Notre Dame Invitational kicked off with doubles action where the Gophers finished 1-2 overall against Notre Dame and DePaul opponents. Doubles action gave the Gophers their only win of the day when the newly formed duo of Tiffany Huber and Bita Mancera downed DePaul's team of Aspasia Avergi and Maddie Yergler with a dominating 6-2 victory. In the remaining doubles draws of the day the Minnesota teams of Cammy Frei / Camila Vargas and Tina Kreinis / Caitlyn Merzbacher were downed by their Notre Dame and DePaul foes by scores of 4-6 and 6-7. The Maroon and Gold fell to a combined 1-9 record during day three.

"Overall, the tournament gave us a great opportunity to see where our level is compared to some of the best teams in the country" Mancera said. "With a few more months to prepare for the [spring] season we know exactly the weaknesses we need to work on and the weapons we need to keep developing to make sure we peak at the right time."

Singles action wrapped up the day for the Gophers where they were met with some of their toughest matches of the weekend resulting in a final 0-7 record. Kreinis, Mancera, Frei and Vargas fell in straight sets to the Fighting Irish competition. Huber fell in a hotly contested battle to Cameron Corse (6-7, 5-7) and Merzbacher was downed (6-7, 1-6) shortly after. River Hart wrapped up the singles play for the final day of competition in another 3-set duel with Notre Dame's Maeve Koscielski by a score of (2-6, 7-5, 5-7).

"We had some good moments this weekend and also know wat we need to improve to get ready for the spring" coach Catrina Thompson said. "Not having two of our top players this weekend was an opportunity to try out different combinations and now we are ready to get back to work to start gearing up for the spring."

With the Notre Dame Invitational coming to a close it marks the final competition of the Gophers' fall season. The Gophers will be back in action Jan. 26 when they travel to Los Angeles, Calif.  for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend hosted by UCLA alongside FIU and LMU. The Maroon and Gold will return home shortly after when they host the 4-team Courtside Classic tournament from Feb. 2-3 with DePaul, Montana and Colorado.
