Gophers Head West to Kick-Off Spring Season

Eight members of the University of Minnesota women's tennis team are set to head to Los Angeles, Calif. to compete ITA Kick-Off Weekend hosted by UCLA from Jan. 26-27, 2019. Alongside the host team, the Gophers will be joined on the west coast by competition from Florida International and Loyola Marymount.
"We are excited to travel to California to play in the ITA Kick-Off tournament this weekend" head coach Catrina Thompson said. "We will be playing two of the top teams in the country which will give us an opportunity to assess how we match up with these strong teams."
After nearly a decade to the day since their last meeting [Jan. 31, 2009], the Gophers will kick off the weekend tournament with the No. 8 UCLA Bruins on Saturday at 12 p.m. (PT) while FIU and LMU face-off at 9 a.m. (PT). The winner of each match-up will meet on Sunday at 1 p.m. (PT) after the completion of the 9 a.m. consolation match. The winner of the tournament receives a qualifying bid to the Oracle ITA Team Indoor Championship taking place in Seattle, Wash. from Feb. 8-11, 2019.
