Gophers Top Indiana in Three on Senior Night

The No. 3 University of Minnesota volleyball team topped Indiana in straight sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-22), tonight in front of a sold out 5,599 crowd. The Gophers move to 15-0 in the Big Ten and 21-2 overall. With the loss, the Hoosiers drop to 15-11 overall and 6-9 in the Big Ten. With the win tonight, Minnesota ties their longest win streak and Big Ten win streak.Â
Regan Pittman put up a team-high 11 kills and hit .350. Stephanie Samedy had 10 kills, hit .526 and recorded four blocks. Taylor Morgan followed with nine kills and hit .533. Adanna Rollins lead the team and set a new career high with 16 digs while chipping in seven kills. Lauren Barnes had 11 in the back row. Samantha Seliger-Swenson put up 36 assists in the win.
Following the match, the Gophers honored its seniors Swenson, Sophie Beckley and Kayla Buford.Â
The Gophers are back in action tomorrow night as the face No. 12 Purdue at 7:30 p.m to close out the regular home season. The match will be available on Big Ten Network Plus.
Set Breakdown:
Set 1: The Gophers earned a 25-12 win after hitting .312 in the first set as Pittman added five kills. Minnesota opened the match with an 8-1 lead as Indiana called a timeout. Minnesota later pushed the score to 14-7 off a Morgan kill. The Gophers went up 16-7 off a solo block from Morgan as Indiana called its second timeout. Samedy added a kill for an 18-9 lead, while she later added two aces for a 22-10 advantage. The Gophers finished off the set with a kill from Pittman to go up, 1-0.
Set 2: Minnesota opened the second set with a 7-2 run, as McGraw added an ace. Morgan added a kill for a 12-7 lead. Indiana came back to cut the Gopher lead to three at 16-13, but Minnesota went on a 3-0 run to garner a 19-13 lead and as Indiana called a timeout. The Gophers later went up 21-15 off a Morgan kill, which caused Indiana to use its second timeout. Minnesota, however, went up 23-17 off a Rollins kill and she finished off the set with her sixth kill of the match.
Set 3: The Gophers solidified the victory with a 25-22 set win. As the two teams tied through 10-10, Minnesota went on a 3-0 run and a 13-10 lead as Indiana called a timeout. The Hoosiers, however, tied the set at 15-15 on a kill. The two teams traded points again through 19-19 before Minnesota took a 21-19 lead as Indiana called its second timeout of the set. Samedy later pushed the score to 23-20 on a kill while Pittman finished off the match with her 11th kill of the evening.
