Gophers Fall 4-3 in Close Dual With Tigers

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Minnesota fell to Missouri on the road Friday, dropping their record to 7-2 on the season. No. 1 doubles pairing Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher took a 6-0 win over No. 49 ranked doubles pairing of Serena Nash and Clare Raley.
"We fought with a lot of heart today and left everything out on the court," head coach Catrina Thompson said. "Mehvish and Caitlyn led the way today with a strong and convincing win in doubles against a highly ranked team."
Doubles
While Merzbacher and Safdar won in the No. 1 doubles spot, the team dropped the doubles points with Annemarie Emme and Tina Kreinis' 7-5 loss in the No. 2 spot, and Caroline Ryba and River Hart's 6-4 loss in the No. 3 spot.
Singles
In the No. 1 singles spot, Ryba won 6-2, 6-3, followed by a 6-3, 7-5 loss from Barbara Mancera in the No. 4 spot. Then, Emme won the No. 3 spot 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 and Kreinis won the No. 2 spot 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5). Minnesota lost the last two singles matches, a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 loss for Merzbacher in the No. 5 spot, and a 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 loss for Hart in the No. 6 spot.
"Time for us to reset and get ready for Memphis early tomorrow morning" head coach Catrina Thompson said. "Will be another tough battle for us."
