DALLAS - Four RBIs from Toby Hanson helped the Gopher Baseball team slug past George Washington University, 12-5, at Horner Ballpark on the campus of Dallas Baptist University on Tuesday afternoon.

An error on the Minnesota (12-6) infield helped George Washington (7-10) score a pair of unearned runs in the first inning, but the Gophers coaxed four walks in the bottom of the inning as they tied the game at 2-2 after one. The Maroon & Gold did not stop the scoring there as the first three batters reached leading off the second. Terrin Vavra's sacrifice fly brought in the go-ahead run for the Gophers, while Hanson added to the lead with his first of two, two-run doubles down the right field line.

"It was good to get back outside and get a change of scenery," said Hanson after the game. "The guys did a good job of getting on in front of me and wearing the pitcher down a bit. So, I got some good pitches to hit and was able to get the job done and drive them in."

Luke Pettersen's third inning RBI groundout helped add some insurance for Minnesota some more insurance. The Colonials continued to hang around as they loaded the bases without an out in the top of fourth. A bases loaded walk ended the day for Jake Stevenson, who worked the first 3-plus innings for the Gophers. Jeff Fasching (1-0) entered out of the bullpen and got a pair of ground balls including a double play to get out of the inning, but one would drive in a run as George Washington pulled within 6-4 after four. Fasching would finish his day with 4.0 innings allowing one run while striking out three.

"[Fasching] was in a groove. He was able to work quick and get us back in the dugout so we could keep scoring runs. He had his A-game today," said Hanson. "Jake [Stevenson] didn't have his best stuff today, but that's why Jeff picked him up."

The Colonials pulled within one with another RBI groundout after a pair of hits leading off the fifth, but Minnesota had an answer yet again as Hanson ripped his second double of the game to drive in two more runs in the sixth. He eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cole McDevitt.

George Washington used six pitchers on the day, and Harrison Cohen took the loss after surrendering three runs while getting just one out. The Gophers drew 10 walks on the day, including two each by Kozicky, McDevitt, Vavra, and Wilson.

QUOTABLE
"We're getting a lot of our confidence back. We went through a tough little stretch, but now, we are seeing the ball well, putting together consistent at-bats one after another and getting that clutch hit. We haven't always been able to do that in the past, but the past couple games, we've been able to and to put together all those runs." - Toby Hanson on the team scoring 27 runs in its past two games

NOTABLE
Bubba Horton pitched 2.0 hitless innings, striking out three, in the longest outing of his career … Hanson hit two doubles for the first time since May 15, 2015 against Monmouth … the Gophers drew 10 walks in a game for the first time since March 3, 2017 against Oral Roberts.
