The Gophers found themselves in a hole early at the Big Five meet but embraced their season theme, "love the battle," to claw back and finish third. That secures a spot in next weekend's B1G Championship evening session.
"This season is all about loving the battle and we knew after the first event we had a lot of work to do," sophomore Paige Williams said. "We really used the time during our bye to reset our minds and get a new focus. (Coach Hansen) told us to breathe, have fun and be aggressive on our landings. We really took that to heart and finished floor and the rest of the meet strong."
The Gophers had a tough go if it on beam early but bounced back with a strong floor. They followed with their third highest score of the year on vault and closed out with a big time bars score for the second straight week.
"We had a difficult start on beam which was very uncharacteristic for us," head coach Jenny Hansen said. "However, they responded extremely well and got stronger and stronger as the night went on. I'm really proud of how we finished and the fight in this team."
Lexy Ramler won a share of the all-around title with a 39.450. She has now won eight all-around titles this season. Ivy Lu won the bars title and Williams won a share of the floor title.
BEAM
The Gophers had a season low 47.750 on beam to start the meet. Lu had the team's highest score with a 9.850 and Ramler notched a 9.825.
FLOOR
The Maroon and Gold settled in with a bye before heading to floor. They recorded a 49.000 on the event not counting a score lower than a 9.750. Williams continues to impress on floor and won a share of the title with a 9.900.
VAULT
The Gophers scored their third highest mark of the year on vault with a 49.025. Ramler took second on the event tying a career high with a 9.875. Abby DeMuse continues to get stronger as the year goes on as she recorded a season high 9.825 for fifth. Fellow senior Ciara Gardner came up big with a 9.800.
BARS
The Gophers still found themselves on the outside looking in of the top-three going into the final rotation of the evening. One week after tying a school record, the bars squad produced highlight after highlight to propel them in. They posted a 49.375 for the sixth highest score in program history.
Lu won the title with a 9.950 in the anchor spot. She has gone over 9.900 on bars in nine meets this season and has hit 9.950 or higher five times. She came into the meet ranked No. 3 in NCAA on the event.
Ramler closed out her big day with a 9.925 for a second place finish. Senior Hannah Hitchcock notched a 9.900 for fourth.
