Lexy Ramler was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Ivy Lu scored a 9.950 on bars to tie for the bars title at the B1G Championships this evening.
"It was really fun today to be competing here on podium with all the teams," Lu said.
The No. 23 Gophers posted a 196.225 for sixth place. The meet was tight all the way to the end with third through sixth separated by just four tenths.
"It was a really tight competition. We did have a few mistakes here and there but it happens," Lu said.
Ramler took fourth place out of 20 all-around gymnasts in the B1G Championship all-around with a 39.375. Paige Williams took fourth on both vault and floor.
The Gophers will now have a week off before hosting NCAA Regionals on April 7 at the Maturi Pavilion.
"We can't wait to get in front of our home crowd and compete again. We hope to see a lot of Gopher fans there," Ramler said.
VAULT
The Gophers went 48.825 on vault led by Paige Williams in the anchor spot. It was just her fourth vault of the season and it was a season high of 9.850 for a fourth place finish. Ramler notched a 9.8.
BARS
Bars continues to be the top event for the Maroon and Gold. They went 49.325 with a pair of career high 9.825s from Selena Ung and Kristen Quaglia. Ramler went 9.900 and Lu hit 9.950 again. That is now ten meets that Lu has gone 9.900 or higher on bars. The No. 2 ranked bars gymnast in the NCAA has hit 9.950 or higher six times.
Lu tied with two other gymnasts for first while Ramler finished sixth. Annie Laatsch was the last Gopher to win a B1G bars title when she did so in 2002.
BEAM
After a rocky beam a week ago the Gophers got back in form this evening with four scores going 9.8 or higher. Lexi Montgomery got things started with a career high 9.8 and Mary Korlin-Downs followed with one of her own. Ciara Gardner also went 9.8 and Ramler anchored with a 9.825.
FLOOR
Williams was the very last performer of the entire meet and put on a show for the crowd with a 9.9 on floor for a fourth place finish. She has not scored less than a 9.8 on the event all season and has not hit three 9.9s. Her mark was good for fourth place on floor.
Gardner and Ramler each went 9.850 on floor.
