TEMPE, Ariz. - Make it 3-for-3 for Kieran McKeag. The Gophers hammer thrower picked up his third personal record in the first three outdoor meets of the season for the University of Minnesota track & field team on Friday as the Maroon & Gold opened up the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State.
McKeag led the way for the Maroon & Gold in the first day of action at Sun Angel Stadium, finishing second in the premier hammer throw competition with his toss of 63.96 meters (209-10 ft.). McKeag, who won the hammer throw last weekend at UCLA, has now thrown his way into Minnesota's all-time top-10 in the weight throw (indoor) and hammer throw (outdoor) this year. Jon Nerdal finished seventh in the premier hammer throw competition with an attempt of 59.74 meters (196-00 ft.).
Meanwhile, Connor Rousemiller picked up a personal record of his own to win the open hammer throw competition on Friday at Arizona State. Rousemiller's fourth attempt of the day sailed 59.13 meters (194-00 ft.) to lead all competitors in the event.
Minnesota closes out the weekend at Arizona State on Saturday as the Sun Angel Classic concludes.
