James Travis Wins Triple Jump Title

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – James Travis led a small contingency of University of Minnesota men’s track & field competitors on Friday by winning the triple jump at the 93rd annual Howard Wood Dakota Relays.

Competing at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, S.D, Travis cleared a personal record of 14.80 meters (48-06.75 ft.) to lead the collegiate field and pick up his second triple jump victory of the 2018 outdoor campaign (Tom Cat Twilight).

Travis’ win in the triple jump was one of several personal records for the Maroon & Gold on Friday.

In the high jump, Ben Gucinski matched his outdoor personal record at 2.01 meters (6-07.00 ft.) to finish fourth. Teddy Frid came in 10th at 1.91 meters (6-03.25 ft.) while added a personal record in the discus at 34.59 meters (113-06 ft.) – finishing 15th.

Minnesota added two more personal records in the 800 meters with Hunter Staack finishing ninth at 1:53.45 and Jordan MacIntosh coming in 11th at 1:54.50. Matt Rosen was 18th at 1:56.15.

Alex Plasencia finished seventh in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 9:34.02.

The Gophers continue the outdoor campaign next week with the 2018 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
