9/22/2018 11:55:00 AM | Wrestling

Gable Steveson wrapped up his Junior World Championship tournament Saturday in Trnava, Slovakia, after finishing the day with a 2-1 record.

In his first action at the championships, Steveson was the aggressor, breaking a 4-4 deadlock and winning the match by a 7-4 decision with a late ankle pick. The Apple Valley, Minn. native would then advance to the quarterfinals with a 13-2 tech fall in his second-round match. After trading takedowns early, Steveson pushed the pace and ended the match quickly by gaining another confident ankle pick and leg lace.

Steveson was later upset in the quarterfinal match, falling at the 1:42 mark. Steveson's championship would end after his quarterfinal opponent could not get a positive result in the semifinal match.

The Gopher wrestling team will begin their season with their first official practice on Oct. 10 and recently announced their open practice date for Oct. 27.
