Gophers Welcome Pair of East Coast Teams to Midwest; Host Maryland and Rutgers

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota soccer returns home following a pair of Big Ten road matches in Michigan. The Gophers welcome Maryland to Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium on Thursday, Sept. 27 with a 6 p.m. kick off. Closing out the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 30 the Gophers square off against Rutgers at 1 p.m.

WEEKEND PROMOTIONS
You are going to want to head out to ELR this weekend as the Gophers have plenty of promotions on hand. Thursday's match versus Maryland will serve as a Student Night for all U of M students. The first 100 University of Minnesota students in attendance will receive a GOAL long sleeve t-shirt. Along with the t-shirt student will all receive FREE boneless wings from Buffalo Wild Wings.

On Sunday against Rutgers the Gophers will host Kids Fest. The first 300 kids through the gates of ELR will receive a Gophers Captain Armband. Kids will also have the chance to take on select Gopher Soccer players in the inaugural 100 kids vs. Gopher Soccer match. The first 100 kids to sign up at the marketing table will participate in a 10-minute scrimmage on the field following the conclusion of Sunday's match.  During the match there will also be FREE face painting on the concourse.

PARKING INFO
Lots available for parking include Gibbs Farm lot, Gortner Avenue Ramp, SC101 Flat Lot, SC 175 Flat Lot and a select number of lots at the Les Bolstad Driving Range. Lot SC101 and Gortner Ave Ramp will charge $1/hour after 5 p.m. while the Bell Museum, Les Bolstad Driving Range and Lot SC175 will charge a flat rate of $6.  

A shuttle is scheduled to run between all stops, excluding Les Bolstad Driving Range, and will drop all fans off right at ELR Stadium from their parking destinations. A second shuttle will be running from the Minneapolis East campus as well for students and fans. Pick up will take place at the Athlete's Village courtyard back by the MINNESOTA signage 30 minutes prior to kick off while pick up at Territorial Hall 20 minutes prior to kick off. The shuttle will leave ELR Stadium 15 minutes following the conclusion of the match. 

AN APPETITE FOR ASSISTS
Adding the game-winning assist on Sunday against Michigan, senior midfielder Molly Fiedler now has 22 career assists and is now one shy of tying April Bock for 8th all-time in program history. Fiedler has now recorded an assist in three of the last five Minnesota matches.

NOTHING ON NIELSEN
Sophomore goalkeeper Maddie Nielsen has recorded three-straight shutouts for the first time in her career. This past weekend she collected a combined six saves (two versus Michigan State and four at Michigan) in a pair of double overtime matches. With the aid of the back like she has not given up a goal in last 430:39 of play.

BOCKIN STAYS GOLDEN
Senior forward April Bockin's golden goal in the 105th minute against Michigan is her second game-winner of the season. The senior midfielder now has six career game-winning goals which is two shy of cracking the programs all-time top-10. Bockin has now scored four of the Gophers 13 goals this season.

THREE IS A MAGIC NUMBER
There are six different Gophers who have recorded a goal and an assist to tally three points on the season. Makenzie Langdok, Patricia Ward, Celina Nummerdor, TJ McKendrick, Megan Gray and Maddie Castro have all done damage offensively. Among those six Langdok, Ward and Gray have all netted game-winners for the Maroon and Gold.

SERIES HISTORY
The Gophers are 3-1 all-time against Maryland having won the last three matchups against the Terrapins. Last season the Gophers beat Maryland on the road 3-1 despite being outshot 7-4. Current seniors Molly Fiedler and April Bockin both scored in the match on October 1, 2017.

The series between Minnesota and Rutgers is all knotted up at 3-3. The Gophers have won the last two meetings including last year's thrilling 2-1 victory over the No. 16-ranked Scarlet Knights.  Sydney Squires scored the game winner in the 87th minute to secure the upset victory in Piscataway, N.J. In that match, Maddie Castro scored her first collegiate goal in the 35th minute with an assist from April Bockin.
