MINNEAPOLIS -- After a weekend in the desert, the Gophers return to the Midwest to play in the Marquette Intercollegiate in Erin, Wis., starting Sunday.

Minnesota, No. 11 Arizona State, Iowa, McNeese State and Utah are all first-timers to the sixth-annual tournament, which will be played at Erin Hills Golf Course. Site of the 2017 U.S. Open, the course will be a par 72 at 7,869 yards.

The field
 also includes
Michigan State, Ole Miss, Northwestern, UC Davis and Wisconsin. The teams open play with the first round on Sunday, followed by 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday.

The Gophers' team contingent will be the same as last week with juniors Thomas Longbella and Noah Rasinski, sophomores Angus Flanagan and Evan Long and freshman Lincoln Johnson. Minnesota will also send three individual competitors in senior Peter Jones, redshirt sophomore Gus Minkin and freshman Harry Plowman-Ollington.

Minnesota finished in 12th place in last week's Maui Jim Intercollegiate. Flanagan is coming off of a solid outing at the tournament, where he recorded new personal bests in the first round with a 66 and for 54-hole score with a 207. He led all Gopher competitors and finished three-under par and tied for 24th.

The team's leader in scoring average this year at 70.83, Longbella was a source of consistency for Minnesota all last weekend, and his composure resulted in an impressive final round. He carded birdies on two of his last three holes to finish one-under par on the day and in the tournament. He scored a 209 and placed in a tie for 30th.

Johnson, who ranks second on the squad with a scoring average of 71.00, began the Maui Jim contest with a historic 65 in the first round. It was a new personal best and the Gophers' best individual round score since Longbella recorded a 63 in November of 2016. Johnson ended up finishing third among Gophers with a 212 and tied for 43rd.

Long made up for a tough first two rounds with a successful third. He recorded four birdies over five holes to battle back from an above-par start and card a par-70 on the day, a new personal best round. He finished with a 215 and tied for 56th place.

Rasinski had his best round of the tournament in the first, which featured two birdies late and a 72 for the day. Rasinski finished the contest with a 224, and in 74th on the leaderboard.

Minkin also competed as an individual at the Maui Jim Intercollegiate. His best round came in the second round, when he scored a one-over 71. He ended with a 221, in a tie for 70th.

Jones and Plowman-Ollington will make their second appearances of the season this weekend. Both previously competed in the Gopher Invitational on Minnesota's "B" squad.

Jones was the best finisher for Minnesota's second group at the home meet. He shot one-under par in the first round with a 70 and ended with a five-over 218 to tie for 28th. Plowman-Ollington shot a 245 in his first collegiate outing, with his best round coming in at an eight-over 79.
