MINNEAPOLIS – Gopher Hockey senior captain Brent Gates Jr., has been tabbed the Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his performance in the Penn State series, the conference announced on Tuesday morning.

A native of Grand Rapids, Mich., Gates extended his goal scoring streak to five games over the weekend, a new career long for the forward. He tallied his seventh of the year on Friday night before adding the eventual game winner – as well as an assist – in Saturday's series finale. Additionally, Gates and the Gophers held the nation's top offense to just one goal on Saturday for Penn State's lowest scoring total of the season.

The accolade is Gates' third career Big Ten weekly honor.

Minnesota returns to action this weekend with a two-game, Big Ten series at Notre Dame.
