MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota men's golf team takes part in its fifth and final tournament of the fall this weekend at the prestigious Tavistock Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
Founded in 2003, the tournament starts Sunday at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club, which is playing as a par-72 at 7,544 yards. Competition consists of 18 holes each day through Tuesday.
The challenging 15-team field is highlighted by six programs that are ranked in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches Poll, including No. 1 Arizona State, No. 6 Texas Tech, No. 10 Texas, No. 22 Illinois, No. 23 Auburn and co-host No. 25 West Virginia. In addition, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, co-host UCF and Vanderbilt are all receiving votes, while Augusta, Cal and UNLV round out the field with Minnesota.
Minnesota's team contingent will consist of junior Angus Flanagan, sophomores Will Grevlos, Lincoln Johnson and Harry Plowman-Ollington, and freshman Connor Glynn.
Flanagan (69.00 scoring average) and Glynn (70.50) are the top two scorers on the team and have competed in all four previous tournaments this fall. Johnson (72.50) will be making his third appearance for the team, while Plowman-Ollington (74.80) and Grevlos (75.00), who have both competed in two tournaments this season as individuals, will be competing for the team for the first time.
Flanagan enters the tournament red-hot with top-two finishes in his last two events, including a victory at last month's Macdonald Cup. He has posted eight straight rounds under par and has been the Gophers' top finisher in three of four tournaments this fall.
The Golden Gophers enter this weekend having record consecutive top-five finishes at tournaments for the first time since the spring of 2015. Last time out, they had three golfers finish in the top-15 at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate to help the team to a fifth-place finish.
Flanagan claimed second place as finished at 10-under for the tournament and set personal bests for his 54-hole score of 200 as well as his score-to-par of 10-under.
Johnson tied for the best finish of his career as he placed 11th, a mark he had reached twice previously in his career. Like Flanagan, he also set new personal lows for 54 holes (208) and score-to-par for a tournament (-2). The other top-15 finish belonged to Glynn as he ended in a five-way tie for 15th at even par.
