Gophers Earn 3-1 Win Over Iowa

The No. 7 University of Minnesota volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Iowa, tonight in Iowa City, Iowa. The Golden Gophers improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in Big Ten play, while Iowa drops to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in league action.

Minnesota had four players in double digit kills. Regan Pittman hit .640 and had 16 kills, three assists, an ace, five digs and five blocks. Taylor Morgan also had 16 kills and hit .577 with a dig and four blocks. Stephanie Samedy added 14 kills, seven digs and four blocks. Adanna Rollins added 14 kills, 17 digs and a block. Rachel Kilkelly started as the Gopher libero tonight and had eight digs. Bayley McMenimen had a career-best 50 assists and seven digs.

As a team, Minnesota had 66 kills, hit .323, added 55 digs and 10 team blocks. Iowa had 65 kills, 57 digs, hit .291 and had 57 digs. 

Notables
-Minnesota had 11 players make an appearance in tonight's match, including Ellie Husemann, who came in off the bench and added three blocks.
-It was Minnesota's second four-set win of the season, the first coming against Stanford earlier in the season.

Minnesota hosts Rutgers at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. Match will be played at Maturi Pavilion and streamed on BTN +.

How they won:
First Set: Iowa opened the match with an 8-4 lead and held the lead for the remainder of the set. Iowa hit .685 to Minnesota's .385 for the 25-18 set win.
Second Set: Minnesota built a 9-3 lead in the set to maintain the lead throughout the set. The Gophers added three blocks in the set and had 18 kills to win the set, 25-21.
Third Set: After starting the set trailin 2-5, Minnesota tied the set at 8-8 and went on a 5-1 run to take a 13-9 lead and took the lead for good at that point. The Gophers had four blocks in the set.
Fourth Set: Trailing 19-22, Minnesota came back to tie the set at 23-23. The two teams fought off set points through 28-28. As Iowa called a timeout, Taylor Morgan finalized the match with back-to-back kills for the 30-28 win.
